Everybody is familiar with Andy Lau’s ‘Yi Qi Zuo Guo De Ri Zi’ , but it was a tough period last year for him and his wife Carol Zhu Liqian because of the exposure of their wedding certificate. Andy whom always denied that he was married finally held the hands of Carol to admit everything.

Coming into 2010, Andy can consider going past his darkest period, having said what past has past, however being blamed he still sighed: “With regards to the matter (his marriage), it’s not out of concern but can’t understand how people are saying and never expected how people look at me.” From now onwards he choose to work more and speak less, only his wife know he’s good for her is enough.

A funeral last year exposed the secret of Andy that had been kept for many years, it also allowed the low profile for many years girlfriend Carol to come to light. Because of her father passed away, being filial Andy accompanied his girlfriend for the funeral in Malaysia, after news leaked out, Andy decided to hold the hands of Carol when returning to Hong Kong, using action to show off their relationship, Apple Daily News then report that they are already married in June 2008 in Las Vegas, his girlfriend has already upgraded to be his wife, Andy whom never admitted that he was married suddenly became a sinner.

Andy is a quiet person, no matter how much he concern his wife, he would not say out the word “love”. Andy then went on to apologize to his fans on his website and admitted that he was married and express that he wish to have children. That is the only time that he admitted that he was married and never talked about his wife, he kept quiet and continue working as the hardworking ox. Going into 2010, Andy wanted to make a summary of the year 2009. When interviewed by Apple Daily News, he said: “What past has past, don’t want to think about it, just thought of what I had did last year, come to think of it it seems that I had not done much.” After his marriage is exposed, he appeared to be tired, so how does he feel at that time, did he feel troubled? Andy exclaimed: “My feelings at that time, I feel it on my own is enough, I don’t want to talk about it, I know that people will worry for me, I can tell everybody that I’m OK, whether I’m troubled had already passed, I don’t wish to share my feelings of that period, I know it myself is enough.” Did he ever feel he was mistaken? He said: “At certain time I was asking myself, how I treated people in the past, how people treat me? What attitude shall I use to treat people? With regards to this matter (his marriage), it’s not out of concern, never know people will be saying about me and how people look at me, I can say what happened had happened, through everybody I understand more about myself in a direct manner.” Actually Andy had been in relationship with Carol for many years, it’s an open secret in showbiz, only just Andy didn’t admit, even though they’re married, when asked of his wife, he also does not talk about it.

After his marriage is exposed, is Carol still a forbidden word for Andy? He sighed: “How shall I put it? I shall say not many people understand about my life, how I live in the past and how I live now, whether one accept it, I have no say, I normally don’t talk about her (Carol), will not talk about her, not that I’m hiding something, this is just my character.” After all the experiences, would Andy protect himself more? He said: “Can’t refer to protecting myself, it’s because my life currently and in the past is still the same, with regards to private questions, I will use smile to bring through it, I will only share my life with my friends and fans, they know about this.”

In showbiz for so many years and been through so many difficulties, is this matter the most hard to handle? He said: “I don’t know, I never thought of how to handle it, if I had thought of how to handle the matter, it would become a barrier in my life, I only thought of my life, how to carry on, I have no handling, just how to face it, I never though on how to handle this matter, just feel that this matter has past and let it passed naturally.” With regards to wanting to have children, Andy kept quiet to keep it a secret.

Being known as hardworking as he was nicknamed as an ox, other than hardworking he was also known to be filial, as his father had an operation some years back which allow him to cherish the time spent with his family, thus Andy decided not to be an ox anymore, he only accept three film offers per year in order to have more time with his family and hope to raise the standard of his films. Then did he ever though of retiring or move to the backstage, Andy exclaimed: “Never thought of retiring and going to backstage, at most accept less film offers to control the quality.” Andy still stay on his never retire direction, an ox is still an ox.

Andy had been collaborating with Wong Jing in different genres of films, however their last collaboration is Conman in Las Vegas in 1999, they collaborate once again in Future X-cops, the film will open in cinema in February 25. What pushes this collaboration is their belief of Hong Kong can produce a science fiction film. Wong Jing said: “Science fiction films does not have an optimistic attitude, but I never gave up and wanted to shoot one science fiction film, I feel that this film is not Wong Jing because I film comedies in the past.” Avatar which is also a science fiction film and was currently screening in the cinema, people would do a comparison, Wong Jing said: “Cannot make a comparison, it depend on the requirement of the audience, taking a building for example, my building has only 5 storey and their has 16 storey, it’s different. For computer effects in the past, it’s all positioning and it looked fake, but this time round is using real actors to accommodate the special effects, its not special effects in the the whole film, its only 40%, the other are real, some things cannot be done with special effects.”

When Wong Jing said that this film is not like “Wong Jing”, Andy said: “How could you said that it’s not Wong Jing, I’ve collaborated with him for so many films, many are comedies, I don’t know how to look at it, I’ll be unhappy when it’s not funny, everything must be depended on Wong Jing? In this commercialize society, a director like him is normal.” Andy express that this film is a sincere production, but the audience need to accept it, he said: “Actually it quite pressurize, science fiction film are more out of the line, the pressure is not on the box office collection, the box office depend on the market, distribution and luck, the most pressurize is the audience laugh at our special effects. There is no problem with the actors and story, all depended on the audience.” With regards to the comparison with Avatar, Andy exclaimed: “Never thought of it, it cannot be used for comparison, their production fees is a huge difference from ours, we are just doing our best.”
