Innocent Andy to escape arrest from Takeshi Kaneshiro in Japanese film remake

Since Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro last collaborated in 2007 in The Warlords, it has been seven years since they last collaborated, they had suffered together in this period film as they wore torn costumes and mud on their faces. Media Asia plans to remake the 1976 Ken Takakura’s classic film Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare (Manhunt) in 2015, they intended to approach them to collaborate in this modern film which they would dressed nicely and nice backdrop, for the female lead they intended to approach Shu Qi, the film will have a budget of $100 million.


Media Asia had bought the copyright of Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare (Manhunt) years ago, they wanted to invite Andrew Lau to direct the remake of the film which made an impact when the film was screened in Mainland China in 1978, which gained many Chinese fans of Ken Takakura, director Zhang Yimou is one of them. Media Asia thinks that the remake will be popular in Mainland China thus it bought the copyright of the film at a high price. The prosecutor role of Ken Takakura will be given to Andy, Detective Yamura is suitable for Takeshi Kaneshiro, whereas the female lead will be Shu Qi.

When reporter contacted Andrew Lau yesterday, he admitted that Media Asia had sent invitation to him, currently they are in the stage of changing the script, he said: “As it was a film some 30 years ago, thus the story needed some amendments to make it modern, with regards to when the shooting will start, I think the fastest would be next year, because now it’s already October!” When asked why the interest of reshooting a 38-years-old Japanese film? He said: “The film was like by audience in Japan and Mainland China, if we modernize it, it would be watchable. With regards to which actor to be cast, we had to wait for the script to come out!”


The manager of Shu Qi admitted that Media Asia had contacted them, but no more news, she said: “We did discussed about this before, but then Shu Qi cannot fit the film in her schedule, thus no more discussion, now plans to make the film again, now it will depend if Shu Qi can make the schedule next year.”


Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare (Manhunt) is adapted from the novel by Juko Nishimura, its story is about upright prosecutor Morioka was being alleged to commit rape and robbery, Morioka who was escaping from being arrest by Detective Yamura, also investigate on the case, in the mountains he encountered a farmer’s daughter Tonami Mariko, they fall in love with each other, with the assistance of Tonami Mariko, all mystery and the real culprit were uncovered.
