ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is a fund raising campaign for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) research, once you get “challenged”, you either have to donate to the ALS Association within 24 hours or get iced water thrown on you as a punishment for not donating. It followed by challenging another 3 person to do the same. This Ice Bucket Challenge has became a craze worldwide among politicians and celebrities.
After JJ Lin challenged Wong Li-hom, Jolin Tsai and Eason Chan, Andy Lau was also being challenged by Xiaomi Tech founder Lei Jun. Returning to Hong Kong after attending a motor car activity in Beijing, Andy accepted the challenge and issued his challenge to Jay Chou, Chinese concert painist Lang Lang and Hong Kong Paralympic Games gold medalist winner So Wa Wai. Other than taking up the challenge, he also donated US$100.
In the video, Andy said that he immediately prepared himself after his return to Hong Kong, he specially choose a rooftop which “could see the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong”. He carried the huge bag of ice himself and poured them into the bucket. Then he raised his hand to pour the iced cold water over his head with an “Ah~!” exclamation. He then shouted out: “Hope the world will be free from disaster! Thank you everybody!”
After drenching himself, he issued his challenge to Jay Chou, Chinese concert painist Lang Lang and Hong Kong Paralympic Games gold medalist winner So Wa Wai. He reminded them: “Remember to return me the favor!”
Andy also posted the video in his Andy World Club website and reminded everybody: “P.S when undergoing the Ice Bucket Challenge, please crush the ice cubes into small pieces to prevent injury.” It’s said that when he poured the water over his head, the ice scratched his nose bridge.
